Happy Winter, Spring is Coming!

Though it's SOOOO cold out right now, all seasons really do have their own special beauty. Nature, and farmers, need rest- and winter delivers that gift. The farm fields are blanketed with snow and the smoke of the kitchen wood stoves curls quietly from our farmer’s homes. Lots of planning is going on around the tables right now. No better time than the deep freeze of January to start dreaming of spring, and of course, the promise of a bountiful harvest of farm fresh vegetables being delivered to us in just a few months!

I’m really excited to welcome several new retail, and corporate, drop site partners in 2016. They offer you expanded hours and locations, hopefully helping to make your weekly pick up even more convenient than ever! I’ll be sending out information about each of them soon. Twin Lakes CSA deliveries in 2016 will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For information about pick up locations and schedules, please visit:www.ugraze.com/pickup-locations Twin Lakes CSA is very fortunate to have amazing support from our drop site partners. I’m grateful for their generosity, and for the welcome they extend to CSA members each week. Please remember to support our retail partners often, and to express your gratitude too! The CSA would not be possible without our drop sites! For logistical reasons, such as delivery/pick up hours, we will not be delivering to a couple of the sites that we have in the past, including longstanding friends Golden’s Deli, MN Honey, and St. Peder’s Church. We still consider them to be very strong partners of the CSA, and perhaps they’ll be a drop site again in the future. For most of you, I believe there are alternative pick up sites close to your work/home. In response to 2015 member feedback, the CSA will return to the following model: 3 week Spring Season, 12 week Summer Season, and 3 week Autumn Season. Each season can be purchased individually, or, all three together as an 18 week Full Share. Additionally, there will be one delivery in May and one in November. All shares will be through Twin Lakes CSA. Not to worry, there will still be wild-crafted and extended season produce available from the SW Wisconsin farms, but all will be offered under the umbrella of Twin Lakes- for the sake of less confusion for members. Adding the second delivery day will allow for a somewhat expanded membership, but because of the addition of new sites, and a long waiting list from late last year, I’d strongly encourage you to sign up asap to make sure you get the shares you want! Historically, many shares are sold out in February. On the website, under the “CSA Info and Order Forms” tab, you’ll find information about the shares, brochures, list of produce being grown by the farms, order forms, and much more.
Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions! I am working on some new meal planning ideas this winter. I hope to have recipes and menus created for you each week. My husband loves this time of year when I’m experimenting with different veggie recipes every day. I can’t wait to share some of our new favorites with you! Thank you in advance for your faithful support of Twin Lakes CSA farmers. I’m really looking forward to sharing the season ahead with you- I know it will be the best year yet!
