This is a recipe that is easy to change up. You can skip the basil to make basic lemonade, or use another herb of your choice, such as mint, ginger, or rosemary. You could also skip the lemonade, and just add plain or sparkling water to the syrup.

Honey Basil Simple Syrup

1 cup honey

1 cup water

1 cup fresh basil, coarsely chopped and tightly packed

Stir together in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until honey is dissolved, but don’t boil. Remove from heat, pour through a wire-mesh strainer into an airtight jar or container, discarding leaves. Let cool completely before using. Store in a covered jar in refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

Lemonade

Mix the juice of about 4 lemons (or to taste) and 2 cups water; add 1 cup of the Honey Simple Syrup.
